When you hold your baby in the baby carrier, I heard that it promotes bonding and therefore makes the baby feel comfortable like when they were in the mother's womb. In the Baby Book, experts say that wearing your baby can also soothe a fussy or colicky child. From what I have read, what babies need the most is mother's love and bond because that's how they come to trust and know about this world, through the mother in the first six months of their lives.
Products that I want to review are:
1. Baby Bjorn
Without much thought, I purchased Baby Bjorn Classic Original. They worked great until my baby is about 8 months. It says the max weight is 25 pounds, but my baby was already 19 pounds by 7-8 month. By then, I couldn't use Baby Bjorn Original because it hurts my back if I carry my baby more than 30 minutes. Now that my baby is 9.5 months and 22 pounds (~10kg), I cannot use Baby Bjorn Original at all because I cannot buckle my baby anymore... Baby Bjorn can be used facing toward you or away from you so it was great when my baby wanted to out. Also Baby Bjorn cannot be used as a backpack.
However, Baby Bjorn has Original, Active, Synergy, Comfort Carrier and Miracle as of now (May, 2012). Active and Synergy comes with better back support, and Comfort and Miracle also have ergonomic waist belt that can redistribute baby's weight on your shoulder, your back and your hip instead of just your shoulder. If you are buying a Baby Bjorn baby carrier, I recommend Baby Bjorn Carrier Miracle over others because the ergonomic waist belt will help you carry even up to 2 years according to Baby Bjorn Carrier Miracle's description and also because it seems to redistribute the baby's weight most efficiently.
I am not sure about all Baby Bjorn products, but people told me that Baby Bjorn forces babies to hang on their pelvis and can negatively affect their hip development.
2. ERGObaby
The good thing about ERGObaby is the ergonomic waist belt. This will last longer, and it can be used as a backpack when you want to do more. I guess it can be very helpful when you have a second sibling to take care. I used Ergo that my friend lent me, and because it brings your baby so close to you that my baby fell asleep very easily when I carried him with ERGObaby Carrier. Two downsides are that if you carry your baby for too long with this baby carrier, your baby can be bow-legged and that you cannot let your baby face front. On the other hand, ERGObaby supports your baby's hips instead of the back, so your baby can rest relaxed, and the extra padding on the shoulder and waistband does help distribute the weight more.
3. Belle Baby Carrier
Another one Belle Baby Carrier that Jessica Alba and Angelina Jolie has. When you go to Belle Baby Carrier, it has more descriptions how the baby carrier features the perfect balance of comfort and simplicity for parents. With no extra bulk, Belle Baby Carriers are lightweight, cool in the summer, and easy to stow away. I have never tried this, but I've heard great testimonies about this product.
Hope this helps those who are considering to buy just one baby carrier, not many, and save money for your beloved child (or children).
Where did you hear the Ergo can cause bow legs? My son has bow legs, and we used one a lot, but I haven't found any info linking it to the Ergo.
